So I got a beautiful Gold Octospawn from one of my favorite vendors on R2R. I've had it now for a week and my question is: how long should it take to fully open? And secondly, is there anything special I should be doing for it? I haven't had any new Euphyllia since I started the tank. I have a huge frogspawn and torch now. I have my lights ramped up for SPS growth which I think is the problem. I've placed it under a monti so it's getting indirect light.

125 gallon, Nitrate 0, phosphate .04, Alk around 11, Mag 1360, cal 460.

It is open and showing it's tips, but the skeleton is quite obvious. I'll try to get a better pic later today when the lights are up.

If you have large euphyllia doing well i would think it is not use to your tank and will just take some time. I have bought some euphyllia that took awhile to adjust, or ended up moving them until they seemed happy. If the flesh is not around the outside it seems to take longer to adjust. In time the flesh came out and down the skeleton instead of just at the head.

I also have had some that never came around. The wall types are far less hardy than the branching types. Euphyllia does not heal well if damaged flesh. Since the walls are all attached unlike branching types the entire colony gets infected.

This is branching and it seems to have had no flesh damage. Thanks for the input. I hope it's just going to take a little while and then flourish.

In my experience Octospawns don't extend quite as much as regular Frogspawns do. Although they will extend a bit more than what I'm seeing in yours. What lights was it under while at the vendor? What lights is it under now? Did you acclimate it to your lighting?

I'm not sure what it was under. It's now under Reefbreeders LEDs at 80% blue and 50% white during a 4 hour peak each day. I put it in the sand bed and then moved it underneath the monti out of direct sunlight. At times during the day it opens more and then at other times it closes up like you see it. I never got another pic. I'm sure the lights are a lot for it but I've put Scolys in the same way (indirect light and then direct after a couple weeks) and they didn't do this.
