Hello - got this indo gold torch maybe 4-6 weeks ago, it was much more noticeably gold at first and has slowly turned more purple though you can still see some gold in the tips

note: I did do a 4 day blackout to hold back some dinos that were coming up and have cut my light hours to 6 hours a day. Its currently sitting in middle of my tank on a frag rack getting about 150-170 par. Should I put it in more light or is the flow?

Parameters:
ammonia = 0
pH = 7.8
phosphates = .04
nitrates = 5-10ppm
alk = 8
calc = 440

Photo the day i got it, before it opened up fully (its the one on the rack)

Now that you mentioned it. My is looking more purple as well. I do see more extension now that mine has settled and maybe that extension is making it look more purple bc of the color in the tentacles.

Yeah one thing I'm wondering if the extension is meaning it's happy with the flow or if it's extending to get more light..

Bump

bump..

Whats your n and p?

I'm curious what type of lights do you have it under? My DS looked flat under my XR30 G1, upgrade to a G4 and an OR3 blue bar and the colors slowly started to change. I also started spot feeding it RS ab+ and mysis, I'd like to think that had something to do with it.

Pictures for comparison:

whoa taht's awesome. mine use to look like ur after photo, im using a radion xr15 gen 3..are newer lights that much different?

Well, In truth I still thought the Gen4's were kind of flat under the blue light as well. I really didn't see that deeper gold color until I added the Orphek, there are trade off's with the lights though xr30's have variant lighting controls, orphek all blue all the time.

Your XR15 g3's are they pro? You should still get good color. Are you running a custom schedule? or recommend one like WWC a/b?

yeaah its the g3 pro, i'm running a modified AB+, basically 100% blues and 14% on white/red/green (I had 10 white, 3% G/R prevously but decided to try closer to AB+) at 30% intensity, which is somehwere around 130 par where it is in the tank.

The G4 at peak time-intensity (50%) I get about 135 par, with the OR3 it's now at 230-240. Why my torches aren't on fire is beyond me but I'm liking the color and growth. Shot of the tank to give you some context... Lights hang about 12" above the waterline. Maybe slowly increase your intensity and I do recommend red sea ab+ best growth results I've seen thus far. Keep me posted I'm always interested in torch behavior.

Thanks! I'll give it a shot it's nice o know they can come back though. Do u know roughly how long it took to get great colors from flat? Guessing it'll take a few months

All my torches start around 150 par and end up sitting at 250-300

Give that torch some more light hahaha

It will take a couple weeks but it will color up with more light.

Don't raise your po4 anymore.

If anything try to get it around .1 or less.

Corals can't/won't grow at higher phos....lps like torches can handle dirtier water but the dont like it too dirty.

Got it! Yeah my goal was.1 but overshot it, use to be.02 for awhile. Also for par I'll try increasi it, the guy I got it from said he had it under 100ish par which made me concerned I was giving it TOO much light and it was bleaching out or something but seems you all get better results at high par
