Hi guys, i have a this gold torch now for about 2 months now. Through this time it has been doing great, then this morning i noticed its lookiny odd. Tentacles are shrinking and mouth open, from my past experience, this is a sign that a torch is dying. I really dont want to loose this torch since its very expensive. What should i do to save him.
Thank you in advance
Placement: medium flow medium flight, mid tank
Ca: 488
Mg:1474
Kh: 9.82
Ph: 8.19
Salinity 1.025
Picture bellow is from last week and this morning
As you can see from the pic, the hammer behind it js thriving as well as my other torch next to it. So im somewhat confuse. Thank you

Where are your nitrates at? Lights? Flow?

Nitrate at 20ppm. Even my acros are growing. This is the only coral that is suffering. Lighting wise about 150 par at its spot, and medium to highish flow
I would try lower flow on it. In my preference I put my torches in like wave motion flow and try to keep it really low.

Should i try to put it on the sandbed for a while to see if it heal?
If something else is stressing it out, high flow could make it bail or make it more stressed. If it’s the flow that’s the problem, then you’ll know if it perks up in the sand. Could be other things but you could potentially narrow it down in placing. In the sand

I see, thats where i place my old gold torch as well b4 i sold it so i figured this new one would be fine. Bht i guess thats not an issue. If its being bothered would it be retracted instantly instead of reacting now after 2 months?. But Ill try to move jt to lower flow area later tonight when i get off work.

One possibility is that it is splitting hours, new mouth, pooping potentially. How long as it like been receding I guess. For me I’ve put a hammer in a spot that had high flow and over time it got more and more irritated slowly until it bailed. I moved it noticing it didn’t like that location but it was too late.

Ive been very busy with school and work so ive only noticed since last night and this morning, what do you mean by splitting hour?. And as far as i know, i dont think it receive too much flow at all, but i can be wrong. Ill try to cut the flow a bit to see whatll happen.

Splitting heads****** sorry typo ah I know if I have like a colony or a bunch of torches together and one single head on a colony OR one torch compared to the rest is unhappy I assume it’s just that one head, could be splitting.

Thank you, i hope its just splitting id hate to loose such expensive coral. Usually i see when torch have new heads, they usually grow out from the stalk, never seen splitting before.

How close is the hammer? Possibly some coral warfare between the two Euphyllia?
Yeah that’s always a possibility also, I know sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t mix so that could be it also. Hard to tell, all in all I hope it makes it okay and makes it. Losing high dollar noodles never goes well

Aussie golds are difficult corals. You can have many indo torches thriving while an Aussie is dying. They require stability and medium alternating flow. In lower flow they tend to get bacterial infections if any tissue damage occurs. Also low flow doesn’t encourage good membrane development leaving the torch weakened.

It's about 2 in in front of the hammer. The retracting part is at the bottom which is approz 4 in away. Could be my other torch underneath? I thought when they have a warfare their tentacles will stick to each other?

Which this one receive a fair ammount of random and medium flow, so im not too entirely sure what happen. My previous gold torch, also same spot was thriving for 8 months before i sold it

If you think its a possibility have a look at night with torch to see how far the sweeper tentacles are extending. I had a similar issue with a hammer and green torch which sorted itself out once I moved the torch.

Got it! Thank you. Ill move the torch to another place. Hopefully itll bounce back. I dont want to start 2021 with a dead aussie gold
