So I purchased this Aussie Gold Torch 2 days ago and its tentacles have barely come out of the skeleton. Then today morning, I noticed some brown discoloration at the head.

Is this coral ok or is there something I should be doing to help? I see the tips floating under flow but it has been in this state ever since I got it. It was H2o2 dipped and then drip acclimated. IT was placed in the tank with the powerheads off for 24 hours.

Tank:
Reeger 450 - Age ~ 3 months
0 ammonia and nitirtes
5 ppm Nitrates
Phosphates are undetectable
Ph 8.2
Calcium 440
Magnesium 1380
KH 9
Salinity 1.025
Temp 75 - 80 F
Running activated carbon and 5 gallon fuge with marinepure ceramic spheres.

Other tank inhabitatnbts

2 clowns
1 yellow tang
2 Yellow tail chromis
1 six line wrasse
1 bicolor dottyback
~40 assorted critters (hermits, scarlets, turbos, ceriths, nasserius, turban, trochus)

1 GSP frag
1 Purple tip green Torch - this one is doing fine and mostly extended
1 Orange Ricordia frag
7~8 assorted zoa frags

Any input from is appreciated.

It's fine, but feed the fish a bit. Undetectable phosphate might not be the best.

Hhhmmm, I’m not a fan of H2o2 dipping lps unless it’s a last resort. I’m not a drip acclimator fan either. My personal experience is these stress the coral out more. I normally float the bag for 15-30 min to get the temps the same and then do a coral rx dip to get hikers off.

Looking at the video it seems like its in a spot with some pretty high flow. I would move it to less flow.

Were the tentacles that small at the LFS? I have an indo gold torch that can look like that if something bothers it or they can be 4” long....... Guess we need to really know if this is a torch or a grape coral and tentacle length when you bought it will help determine that.

As you know they can look like that at night when retracted. At one lfs they never fully extend. I would give it time. Could be too much light compared to what it was used to or a flow problem. I would give it 3 days if its not expanded, I would try other locations.

So I went back to the LFS and it seems my bag was switched with someone else’s. When I showed them the picture, they said that What I have is a Grape Coral. I am going to get store credit for the difference in price since the Grape is cheaper.
