Been eyeing this guy at my LFS. Eating well. Of course I’m a bit terrified to drop a colorful angel in my tank. I know you have a 50/50 with dwarf angels. I’ve had swallowtails in the past with no issue. But I find the colors a bit blah. I only say this as I’m trying to not over stock my tank, so looking for some pop when I do add a fish.

Current stock:
PBrown Tang, Yellow Belly Hippo, Porcupine Puffer, mystery Wrasse, Leopard Wrasse, lyre tail anthias (1), pair of percs(10 years old) and a small snowflake eel.
Tank is 190g display fully mixed reef.

Anyone have experience with these guys or suggestions for an alternative? Nothing to big, bright colors and unusual...

You have a beautiful tank with a lot of soft corals I wouldn’t chance losing them to a dwarf angel. I tried a Regal and now I’m missing a lot of my soft corals. Maybe try another wrasse.

Thats a $200 - $300 fish if my memory serves me right, if anything go with a flame angle, imo just as pretty and and your local dealers will take them right back if they don't work out.
Just my 2 cents.

Had a Golden that had a taste for polyps but left softies alone. They're very cryptic and you'd likely rarely see it in that tank. I had mine in a tank with primarily Tonga Branch so it couldn't hide very well.

Since 1973, I don't remember ever having a tank without a Flame angel (or 2 or 3) and never had a problem.
As for Golden Angels, they usually are not a good choice, not only for corals but also for survival.

Reviving this in 2021.

my golden dwarfs been a model citizen.

anyone else in current times keeping one who’s not keeping in line?

he has nipped already dying coral, but I’ve never ever seen him go after living thriving colonies or frags
