I just received a beautiful GDM and was wondering what food or brand you guys use to feed it?
and how often do you feed it? Mine is about 10".
What surprised me was how small these guys actually were. I was all concerned about the eel eating my fishes or shrimps but I think I was worrying over nothing really.

The gdm in tanks I take care of eat Piscine mysis and clams on the half shell.

Mysis gets fed to the tank everyday, but the gdm only gets a piece or two, and a clam is added 2x a week.

how do you feed it? do you just drop the food in front of him or hold the food and waive it in front of him, etc? also when you say clam on half shell, do you mean you give it to him with the clam still attached to the shell?

Easiest is usually a pair of tongs or baster.

Don't use your fingers . . . eels are semi blind. Fingers look like food.

Lol, you do know golden dwarfs are tiny. And no fingers don't "look" like food. Eels don't find food by sight alone, for the most part.

Please don't give advice if you don't know what your talking about.

I know their size very well. I also know very well that they can lash out at food and nip fingers because they go for what moves. They really are pretty blind. So maybe you can keep your unwarranted criticisms to yourself.

They don't lash out... they are extremely timid and cautious once they grasp the food they will quickly swallow it or drag it back to their hole , yes they have poor eyesight thus they smell food/ prey not just go for what moves.

Yes criticism is warranted.

Actually, although tiny, and don't rely mostly on sight, they can accidentally bite 'the hand that feeds'. They rely mostly on smell and try to pinpoint the food, but will quickly grab at the first thing it thinks is food. It will know when it gets the wrong thing, but it still does happen.

PS: See, others know about this too. Not sure why you are so inconsiderate. If someone is trying to save a fellow reefer a possible injury, it isn't the time to criticize like you know it all. Just move on and do as you please with your own GDM.
