Hello All,

I have a fluval evo 13.5 gallon that I am setting up and going through the cycling process. I really like these clowns and would like to get a pair once my tank is finished cycling.

Does anyone know how big these fish get? I know they are part of the maroon family and I have seen how big they get and not sure if the GN will get that big as well. Anyone have more info regarding this?

Aaron

I am pretty sure that all maroon clownfish need a tank larger than 12 gallons, regardless of the color.
They are the same species, just bred to specifically bring out certain patterns.
According to ORA, "Appearances aside, these fish [Gold Nugget Maroon]are entirely a Gold Stripe Maroon in every other regard, so care must be taken when pairing, choosing tankmates or choosing tank size."

Maroon clowns will need more space than most other clownfish because of how big they get and they're need for an establish territory. It's really not ideal to put even a baby maroon in a tank that size since you will need to find a bigger home for it within a year. If you really want a clownfish, I would suggest a single false percula (Ocellaris Clownfish), even then you will need to find a bigger tank for it in around 2 years or so if you buy an inch long fish. But trust me, by then you will probably have bigger tank if the reef hobby bug bites you like it did me! (I started with an 8 gallon aquarium) Good luck!

Thank you very much as this helped me with my decision on picking up a few from my saltwater reef store. I like the designer clowns and I am glad I thought about size early before purchasing them. I looked at maybe getting the Wyoming clown fish. Remind me of the maroon just not the maroon golden nugget.

Wyoming Whites are pretty sweet fish! Good luck with them!

Thanks friend.

I have seen them online and interested in looking further into them. Thanks again for the advise too. Helped me out!
Happy to help!
