I believe the golden puffer I have has come down with ich. As of right now there is currently a red breasted wrasse and a zebra eel in the tank. On top of that the 90g I have is currently being used as a qt for the fish I was going to put in there in a couple days. How do I go about treating this? I'm not sure about the treatment with an eel in the tank. Any advice is much appreciated.

I hate to say this, but I don't think it is Ich. To me, that looks like velvet. Spots from ich should be a bit more oval and larger. The small white circular ones are a sign of velvet.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about puffers or eels but I am sure someone more knowledgeable will be son soon.

That would be unfortunate. I have a qt set up right now with coppersafe I think i'm going to throw him in there ASAP. I know he doesnt like copper treatment but that was with cupermine so maybe he will react better to this.

Is the puffer showing any odd behaviors such as hiding or swimming into the flow of a powerhead/filter? With how fine the spots are I'm almost suspicious of velvet. Both the eel and puffer don't do well in ionic or chelated copper, so you would need to get Chloroquine Phosphate which in the US you have to get a vet prescription for.

Yes he has been sitting in the flow since this morning so I decided to throw him and everything else into the qt tank till I can get my hands on the cp which I have a doctor friends who should be able to get it. Hopefully they can hold out for a few days

If you can get a prescription from a vet for it, CP would be the best option for this group. I've run a few puffers through cupramine and coppersafe with better luck using coppersafe. It's still not ideal and not all of them do well in it. The eel is likely to do poorly no matter which copper you use which is why CP is the best option here.

Definitely velvet then :(. Also I asked a mod to merge your two threads for you, that way all the info is in one spot.

Merged...good luck with the treatment.

That does look like velvet, sorry :(

So due to the behavior I took everything a placed it into the qt tank that has been running with Coppersafe. Everyone ate today plus Puffy's color is much improved. Thank for the help everyone. If things go down hill with the copper I will get the CP ASAP.

Quick question, I hate the idea of keeping this qt running for 6weeks-76days allowing the DT to run fallow. I went ahead a poured in some Coppersafe into the DT just to see if the levels would maintain and so far it has. Is it an issue because the sand a rock with provide some sort of hiding place for the parasite? Or is it just an issue of maintaining therapeutic levels?

It's primarily an issue of maintaining therapeutic levels - and then, of removing the stuff when you're done.

The copper / CP will have to stay - at therapeutic - for a minimum of 30 days, and may slightly adversely affect your biofilter.
