Golden Scroll Algae

Just got some golden scroll algae from rusalty. Is this padina?

Planning to put this in my mixed reef and in my macro only tank. Should I be worried? Will take pictures soon.

I figure it is padina but will it develop a blue iridescence? Curious if golden scroll and blue scroll are different or its just a matter of lighting

Looks like Padina, possibly Padina sanctae-crucis, which I do not believe is iridescent. I’m pretty sure this and blue scroll algae are separate species based on their morphology. Marine Plant Book says this is a very difficult macroalgae to care for though Rusalty says otherwise. I wish you the best of luck with this algae.

I have seen this algae growing in Pennekamp Park in the Keys. Location was very shallow water, less than twenty inches in very clear water. That translates into very high lighting.

Awww man. Was hoping for something similar to blue scroll but I still like the look of it. Thanks for the help. If anyone has blue scroll I'd gladly pay for it.

Has the scroll algae shown any new growth?

I divided it into two portions and it's still adjusting. Color has slightly come back but the flow is hard to get right for me

Woke up today and found both portions on my powerhead.

I thought golden scroll was not palatable but my green spotted puffer + mollies both nip it regularly during the day.

The mollies do this to my other macro but not to this extent. Sadly I don't think it's going to make it. Between losing their holdfasts and getting nipped at.

I recommend other species of scroll algae than this one.
