So I have a golden head goby that Ive had for almost a year now and he appears to have some sand that was too large for him to sift through stuck in his gills. He has been eating and all behavior is normal but he has lot some mass for sure. Is there anything I can do to dislodge the sand in his gills or is it a lost cause?

hi pics or short video can help tremendously .

Hi,

This link gives some hints as to what information/videos/pictures are helpful to us.

That said, if the fish has lost weight, it probably has a systemic issue. If it is still eating, what makes you think it is sand stuck in its gills? More often, fish get something stuck in their digestive system, but that causes them to stop eating.

I can visually see the black sand stuck in his gills that he uses to sift sand.

is this a fine sand ? or ?

what size tank ?
any pics ,short video ?

It’s black sand, not necessarily fine. I can move him. But I’m not sure how to get the sand out.
These gobies need a fine sand. Especially valenciennea.
If the goby is loosing weight then it’s already doomed as valenciennea NEEDS Atleast 3-4 feedings daily to be happy unless you have an incredibly well seeded tank and a thick sand bed.
