Goldflake Angel in a reef tank

I recently purchased a beautiful Goldflake Angel.
Two days after going in my display tank, he shredded through my zoanthids, eating nearly half of them.
I'm looking for anyone with experience keeping angels in a reef tank.
If I put him back in my display tank will he stop after all the zoa's are gone, or will he move on to other types of corals?
I would really love to keep him and am willing to see some zoa's go if thats all he will eat.

How about euphyllia? (I know they are lps)
My wife loves the frogspawn/torch/hammers in my tank and would be very upset if he went after them.

I have seen instances where they will leave euphyllias despite eating other fleshy corals. It all depends on the individual specimen, though.

Euphyllia have a pretty potent sting, so are less likely to get picked.

Zoas, fleshy brains, sometimes chalices, are all at a risk.

+1, mines been a model citizen with zoos and fleshy corals. Did you get GF as a juvi or full grown?

I purchased him as an adult, he is around 6" long.
The person I got him from said he never touched any of his corals. (Including zoa's)

Sometimes just a change in scenery is all it takes for a fish to change it's m.o.

I have had mine for a few years now and have never seen him nip any coral , mine was a juvenile now fully grown. They are supposed to be reef safe but still depends on the fish. Try adding Angel Alixer ( it's a supplement that adds sponge to there diet) to some high quality frozen. He may be looking for something he's missing in the food. But I also have a majestic angel who also doesn't touch anything so maybe I just am lucky?

I'm going to keep my angel in my spare tank in the basement for another week or two.

What food do you feed? I've always fed LRS fish frenzy. (He appears to love it.)

Every angel is different but once they start, it is normally pretty tough to get them to stop picking.

I have 2 Goldflakes in a 125. They didnt touch zoas, hammer, elegance sps other small polyps or open brain or others. Put in another small angel that picked on the open brain - and very quickly the larger gold flake started on teh open brain as well. Removed the small angel - and now the Goldflake shows no interest in any of the corals. According to Liveaquaria (and other sources) This Angelfish is one of the safer choices of the large Angels for the reef aquarium, and has proven not to pick on sessile invertebrates. But as others have said - each angel is different. Mine about about 3.5 and 4 inches.

Thank you , yep that's the one . I also use LRS fish frenzy, plus the LRS herbivore blend , very similar to the frenzy but with some more greens. Hope things work out , they are really great looking fish. Good luck!

I tried one a few weeks back. I was tearing up LPS within 24 hours. Had to tear my tank apart to get him out.....
