Maybe some of you could help me on this topic here’s a pic of my Gonipora this thing was thriving for a while yesterday I saw it not extended to its normal size. Today it looks like in the pic! All my parameters look good I did ad some cleaning crew but haven’t seen nothing crawling on top of it or nothing the Goni always appreciated that location on the tank the flow and light is spot on for it he was throbbing just in two days i

So by looking at the photos you posted (closeups) i see a very new and sterile system. Little to no diversity, pods, corals, algae, fish, bacterias, snails, coralline, live rock/sand, crabs, sponges etc. Back in the day it was near impossible for a hobbyist to successfully keep a Goniopora alive for more than a week. Now with hardier strains and healthier established systems success has become a normal thing. Back to your photo. I might be way off base because it looks like your Flowerpot is sitting on a slab of lace rock. But these corals thrive in balanced systems. From Clams to anemones and definitely gonis, introducing them to a balanced echo system is a definite plus in success. And hey, we’ve all been there. :)

The tank is definitely fairly new it’s been up running for 4 months the parameters have been steady exactly how I stated above I did add some torches frog spawn hammer corals rock flowers Favia etc etc once I felt the parameters are steady it’s been like 2 months with the corals and they are doing amazing growing splitting etc etc so decided to try out that Goni and let me tell you it did amazing you see tones of new heads on the Goni I was like I hit it on the nail with this one, and now this happened, let’s see what happens I got a feeling it will bounce back it’s semi open now that the lights been on a while. I’m just going through the ugly stage I’ve done a lot of research and everyone recommends to just leave it alone that all the new algae Etc will go away with time and on its own but I feel like it’s kind of taking over. I had five fishes I added my 6th once after a week or so of quarantine and within a week in this tank it caught velvet whipped out almost all my fish the only one standing is a clown fish I wanted to add tangs to clean up the algae but since it’s been so early with the wipeout I’m afraid to introduce fish and they get velvet so I’m going to let that clown fish ride alone for at least a month and a half or two any suggestions are welcome

I hear you. The uglies are a part of the journey. They will come and go. An established reef tank is definitely in your future. Also surf your way through reef2reef and read up on getting rid of your algae problem. There are about 10 things you can be doing now to slowly but surely see your algae disappear. A Tang right now is probably not the best move as they love nori/seaweed but diatoms and hair algae not so much. Good luck. Keep posting!

I FIGURED IT OUT!!! There was a dang emerald crab under it going to town!!! Eating it up so yesterday it was back and rocking and rolling. But today I see the back of the skeleton teared up I’m like wait a minute looked close and I see a leg I flipped it over and there he was I grabbed him and removed him, I still got 4 more emerald crabs in the tank I pray it was only that one hopefully the Goni won’t be to upset it was upside down on the sand for a while, while I was fighting the crab trying to grab it etc etc

Nice!!! I don’t know what you did with the culprit but some good crackers and a little “crab salad” might be in order. Congrats!
