Guys, really appreciate your help in advance. My Goni has not been extending its polyps for 3 to 4 weeks, And now it has about 10 dark brown spots around the perimeter. I did have an issue were my alkalinity spiked from 9.5 to 12 in the course of a week. Any ideas what the brown spots are and how I can treat?

Sorry to hear about your goni. I'm a big fan and have a bit of an obsession with these....
It looks like you either had some tissue burn from the alk spike or the frag received some physical damage. I think the brown is algae starting to settle in where the tissue has receded. I would give it a tea tree oil based dip, then place it in some lower flow. Also make sure its not getting too much light. Lower the better until the little guy starts expanding again.

try dislodging with GENTLE bursts from a turkey baster. If it does not loosen, Lower white light intensity and add 1.5ml of liquid bacteria per 10 gallons during the day and 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons at night. You are dealing already with a very moody coral which can challenge the most experienced hobbyist. The spots are likely diatoms or bacterial slime

Will try this, and thanks for the thoughtful guidance here. Microbacter7 would be a good bacteria to add? Trying turkey baster now….
