What's happening to my gonio? I just saw this morning that it has a hole in the middle which was not there a few days ago. I need your help guys, I'm so worried.

It doesn't look good. I thought your friend was taking the coral back due to your tank being a bit new??
Sad to say he was away to visit his hometown. He'll be back in 2 weeks (which is making me a lil more nervous).

One more thing, I noticed that my Gonio is it's starting to regain it's color. I hope something even better happens.

Going by the color of the skeleton, the "bare spot" has been there for a little while. If it was fresh it would be algae free still. Gonioporas are constantly opening and closing, depending on the original color, I see nothing to be worried over.

Thanks
Maybe I didn't noticed it at first because my Gonio was almost fully extended a few days ago. This is actually my first time seeing them this retracted.

Should I cut down the lights a little bit to avoid algae?

It probably wouldn’t hurt, they seem to be tolerant of lower light as mine only get about 100-120 PAR but they still seem to be happy.

I agree based on my experience. The goniopora I have seem to do well in a wide variety of lighting provided the coral receives adequate flow and nutrients. I notice that my goni's retreat in the evening before the lights go off as well as randomly throughout the day.
