All of the coral in our tank have been looking amazing the last few months...except for our green goniopora. We've had it for almost a year and for the first six months or so it was doing great. It doubled in size and was fully extended all day, usually closing up at night when the lights went off. Then about 2 months ago it stopped extended and was basically closed up all day. About two weeks ago I moved it to a different spot in the tank to see if that would make any difference but it's still remaining closed all the time. The only major difference in the tank is a little over 3 months ago we pulled all the fish from the tank because we kept having ick outbreaks. So the tank has been sitting fallow, we just added a pair of clownfish back in the past week. I'm sure this caused the nutrients in the tank to take a dive. I have continued feeding the coral a few times a week and also fed the cleanup crew and anemones once a week with brine shrimp so it's not like the tank hasn't been getting fed at all. We dose for nitrates and phosphates because without dosing both would be at 0, we've been dosing for around 6 months so that's not new.
Water parameters are stable, no signifiant changes or swings.
Ammonia/Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 5
Phosphates: 0.03
Magnesium: 1400
Calcium: 420
Alkalinity: 8.3
Salinity: 1.024
For lights we have a pair of hydra 52's. The goniopora has always been placed low in the tank in a spot that had some indirect flow to it. The new spot I moved it to should be getting about the same light as the first spot, maybe a little less flow. I could move it higher in the tank. Any other suggestions?
