Goniopora closed with GHA growing from it

For some reason I have green hair algae growing from my Goni, help! It barely opens up during the day. I have no other gha in my tank. What should I do to save it? Iodine bath again maybe?

Salinity is a bit low. It's not out of the acceptable range, but corals tend to like it more towards 1.026 or 35. Also temp could be closer to 78. Are any other corals in the tank looking upset? What lighting are they under? How long has it been in the tank and did you acclimate it to your water parameters or do any kind of dip?

Been in the tank almost 1 yr and yes acclimated sufficiently
Did an iodine dip 5 days ago but gha is still on it.

Look into hydrogen peroxide dipping, it’ll definitely kill the green hair algae. Justin credibal has a table for different species and their tolerance to the dip

You can take the drag outside, pour H2O2 on the GHA avoiding the tissue on the Gonis. Question for you- do you have any fangs in the tank?

When GHA are growing on your Goniopora it means there is fresh skeleton exposed. Freshly exposed coral skeleton is rich in phosphate. This means your Goniopora most likely was not doing well before GHA started to grow and GHA are only the obvious sign that tissue is receding from the skeleton.

Million dollar question. Why are my zoas doing good but another is dying? Same with any other coral. It could have been doing poorly before you bought it.

This may be from different reasons: Different species, different growth histories, different current and/or light ...

Corals are each different while there are parameters that we like to keep them in. Each coral has a different history and when placed in the same conditions will react differently. In nature you see this as corals will settle in just the right area or they will die as spat( name of baby corals) Goniopora has a history of being a delicate coral to begin with.

Have had the dying green one 2nd longest out of the three. You think the fox face rabbit fish trying to host it could’ve caused this? The fox face is trying to host my biggest one now and causes it to close down in an area. Not the whole coral, just part of it....maybe 1/4 of it
