I am not happy. I recently bought a Goni and within a few days the thing started "melting" just turning into a messy goo. I dipped it in Freshwater (read that was something to try from Boneman's coral book) but it just kept receding goo. I took it out of the tank about 3-4 days ago and now I noticed my other Goni, a redGoniopora Somaliensis is doing the same, some of the polyps just melt into nothing. I've been sucking it up with a Julian's thing, but I hope there is something I can do to save it. The one that is left looks fine, polyps are extended, etc. but parts are just disintegrating, I have it for 6 months and would hate to loose it. Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it brown jelly virus? Picture and water perimeters may help?

I'll get a picture of the Goni later, the one that died already was brown jelly, or that's sure what it looked like. Anyway to stop it? No other coral seems to be effected.

Your numbers are not bad. Calcium a bit low for alk to be 9.1 Phosphates are a bit high as well but that may not be your issue. Brown jelly is deadly and you may not know it exists unless you look early in the morning. When you blow it off try not to do it in tank. It will find a new coral to kill. Goniapora are very prone to it. The way i combat it is dip once a day for a week. When you pull the coral do not shake any of the brown jelly off in your tank.

I lost one Goni already and I'm hoping to save this second one. So this is what I just did - 1) I suctioned all the dead tissue off the goni before taking it out of the tank so it doesn't get anywhere else. 2) I did a freshwater dip (funny aside my wife got confused between tenths of second and seconds so instead of 60 seconds I was pulling it out in like .6 of a second), tomorrow I'll dip it longer, 3) I dipped in Lugols solution for 2 minutes 4) Finally I also added 1 drop of Lugols to my tank (60 gallon).

My plan is to do all of these steps daily until I stop seeing dead tissue. Thanks for everyone's help. Oh if you think I shouldn't be doing anything I've mentioned above or if I should be doing something different let me know. I'll get a picture of the Goni tomorrow now the lights are too blue and I've stressed the tank enough without turning the lights up for a pic.
