I picked up a small frag of green Goni today and was wounding how long it normally takes to adjust. It was out and extended about a half inch for a bit until I remembered that I forgot to turn my wave maker back on and now it’s closes. It’s not getting blasted with flow so idk.

They are very responsive to light and water flow. Location also important and I have found that the lower third of tank most favorable. Goniopora is pretty sensitive and can be closed for a number of reasons. Water flow that is too high or the wrong level of light intensity may be the cause. These corals also tend to curl up if touched by food particles from direct feeding and suspend feeding is favorable. They may also stay closed if you have fish that are constantly rubbing against them. Other possible effect is salinity too low or high.
I would start with verifying your parameters and hopefully youre not using an API test kit.

temp 77-79
salinity 1.025
ph 8.1-8.3
nitrate < .04
Phosphate < .04
mag 1300
ammonia < .03

Gonis are kinda finicky but give it a couple days to acclimate. Light flow is fine so long it isn't being blasted.
They need the flow to be random and where their polyps are gently waving

From everything I have read Gonioporas also need good Iodine levels, more important to them than other corals. The salt and dosing solution I use keeps this at the recommended 0.06 ppm level (and I occasionally test to be sure) and my Gonis do well.

They are quite sensitive to flow, particularly some varieties, so your polyp extension may vary throughout the day if your flow varies. My large one in the 65g tank shuts down in the evening when the flow changes to a pattern it doesn’t like. It doesn’t cause the Goni any issues, just means it looks like a green toadstool for a few hours.
