After transferring my 5 year old goniopora to the new tank build, it shed its symbiotic algae. Now that it has taken on new algae, I am getting a real kick out of the color difference (lighter color pre-move). The lighting is the same. I am wondering how long the new color will stay. Anyone have a similar experience?

It should revert to it's normal color eventually, how long it will take greatly depends on the coral and it's environment. I would venture to guess that within six months it should look as it once did.

+1 it will got back to normal. I had a red that bleached to the point it was a see through pink. It took months but is back to the same deep red of original color.

Thanks! I had it happen to another piece years ago but can't remember how long it took to come back. It's filling out at least so it must have plenty of energy!

how do you you feed your goni? target!?

I have never fed it. It has always thrived well on its own. I'm sure it catches whatever live micro is in the water and pieces of fish food that occasionally gets near it. Funny, I remember the day when all the articles written about them were doom and gloom. The only thing I do is watch how well it tolerates water flow. If the extension of polyps shortens, I might move it to an area with slightly less flow.

What happened to your goni and how did you bring it back?

you have to feed her abundently.when you feed yor fish squert what is left of meat juice towards it slowly and i bet. the zoaxethilla will return
