Seen a nice gonipora rainbow short stem are they hard to keep? pretty cheap too

They are difficult for many people. I’ve never been able to keep one long term. Haven’t tried in quite a while though
 
Mine grow like weeds and one now hosts two clowns with no apparent damage to it. That said, I have little luck with zoas.
Adding to this mystery is the fact that my water parameters are all within normal ranges for these corals.
Love the colors of the one you are considering.
 
Probably my favorite soft coral and that is a really nice piece. I picked one up just like it last year at a convention. There is a lot of info about these being difficult but I think personally its more like "difficult compared to what". Compared to a frogspawn, (which to me is almost indestructible) yes they are more fragile and less forgiving to changes. IMO these are the types of soft corals you would want to add later in the game when you are sure the system is established and for the most part stable. If everything is on the up and up I haven't seen these corals to require anything special. I have never target fed a goniopora...
