Hey fellow reefers. I recently got this really awesome sparkly gonipora that I got in a live sale from Aqua asd and I want to give it the best chance for long term success. I've had a gonipora before for over 8 months until it's started to get a bit of algae I. The fray and that seemed to kick its butt (I understand they are very sensitive). So what's the best lighting and flow that I should shoot for in placing it n a permanent spot? I have a 8bulb ATI Sunpower 10" off the water surface over a 66gallon 20" deep tank

if I ever buy another one, I would just throw it on the floor. I would have just as much luck as I have had adding them to my tank. 5 or 6 months and they waste away. hope you have better luck.

My copper band photo bombing one of my goni shelves. They just ate so a bit closed up. But you can see medium lighting but not direct. Low flow, just enough to have the tentacles sway. I never put goni directly on sand bed. They eventually start to die from bottom up as sand irritates the flesh. And the natural process of sand shifting around the base. They are not easy but keep an eye on it. The tentacles will always be swaying as long as the lights are on. If it is not fully open for more than a day. It is not happy.

gonis are all the trouble of an SPS in an LPS coral...but ther're my favorite...

Up off the sand - crap settling on it will invariably start a tissue recession - a little more than moderate flow to keep them clean (they won't extend as far - but they seem to like it over the long haul).

Once you find a spot - don't fuss with it.

Nice coral -

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys-the more the better but so far I'm seeing..... off the sand bed, good but indirect lighting, and enough flow to make the tentacles move seems to be consistant so far- and I will try to keep it off the floor @3dee hahaha. I kno that feelin tho

Will this coral sting other softies like zoas or duncan?

Mine do well in medium light. Flow is very important, don't want to blast them mine get random moderate flow. I have three on the sand bed that have been there over a year doing fine and one higher up in the tank.
