So I got my first goni a little over a week ago, it's red with purple center & aquacultured, definately sweet looking. When I 1st put it in it was very full & expanded greatly. The 3rd night I noticed I had an emerald walking on it as I had placed it near where my emerald likes to hang. he wasn't eating it but I'm pretty sure thse sharp little feet of his damaged the tissue somewhat, so I relocated it. The first 3 or 4 days after that it stayed closed a lot, I figured this was just due to damage so no big deal, and it started to open more & more, I have it about 12 inches from a 250watt halide. My main question to all you goni owners out there is does your retract it's polyps completely at night? It has yet to expand as fully as it did when I first placed it in the tank. It's been in it's current location for about 7 days now so I would say ity's acclimated to it's spot but I'm wondering if it isn't getting enough flow & that's why it isn't as full as when I initially placed it in my tank. Doesn't seem stressed at all just not as full as it was initially....any input would be greatly appreciated....

Been a while since I had one, but it did go through phases of being really full followed by a couple days or so of being almost golf ball like. Strong but not direct flow seemed to make it happiest. The smell of food in the water usually made it fluff out as well. I'd give it another week or so and see if it expands back out.

You probably won't have the issue since it's aquacultured, but mine had flatworms that bothered it for a while before I knew what they were. They looked like small clearish patches over the mouth of the polyps and were more noticible when it was closed.

Ive never paid alot of attention to mine (bought it for the wife... but im more into acros), but I have noticed it fully closes at night..... its about middle of the tank under led in a strong/ moderate flow area that gets random flow as well.

I think I'll leave it as is now, it definately seems happier day by day....thanks for the input guys.
