Good afternoon, good evening or good night?

Hey,

My name is James. I have lurked on here without being a member in the past.

I'm a reefer from the UK. I've kept various systems in the past, typically picos/nanos but had have an Aquamedic Percular 90 which was a big all in one system. I've never kept a tank with a sump.

I like to operate my tanks as simply as I can. I currently have a custom built shallow and densely packed SPS tank. It was built to sit on top of an IKEA Kallax unit and is approx 77x38x35cm made in 8mm optiwhite glass (10mm base). Its run with a basic hang on the back filter which has an incorporated surface skimmer. I skim with a TUNZE 9004, top up with a TUNZE 3152, light with one XR15 G5 Blue, have flow from two Nero 5s and manage my temp with an Inkbird unit. I dose all for reef, approx 45ml per day which is alot on an 84l tank.

I've been reefing for over 10 years with a break in the middle when the missus put a stop to it. Currently looking to upgrade to a Waterbox 105.4 or something similar and thought I'd join you fine people to see what's happening elsewhere!

Looking forward to discussing things with you in the future.

Whilst I get myself set up on here, please feel free to find me out on Instagram, my username on there is theshallowreefer. Let me know ow if you put your photos up there too!

James

Hi James and Welcome! Glad you joined. Glad your missus let you come back.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

What’s your secret for the fabulous growth???
Time. I don't change lots at once. I also try not to buy wild. Most of all... I keep it simple.

That's 84l of salt water. No sump. I use All For Reef to manage KH. I try to restrict water changes to fortnightly or monthly. I only really fee frozen mysis. I don't bother with potions and snake oil.
