I have a biocube 32 G tank. It seems that the canopy led light went (I will have to see if I can get it replaced). I have been looking into alternatives and was thinking of going the Kessil route. I would like to be able to control the colors, to avoid algae growth (which I am having an issue with), and would also like to have the same features as my current canopy (with scheduling of sunrise, sunset, etc.). Can anyone recommend a decent product, that won't break the bank? :)

I would upgrade Vs replace the stock lighting.. there are some great retro fit LED’s available such as Steve’s LED’s or nanobox retro’s that are made to fit inside the stock Biocube hood, I’m running a nanobox on my BC and really like it. There are also other options that may fit inside the hood with a little DIY skills such as AI or coralbox moon LED’s.. I have been experimenting with the coral box for several months and it’s a great light for the money, comes with multiple mounting options all included with light and has built in WiFi and a free available app for easy programming.

I've always wondered this... a few leds cost a few $'s. Couldn't you make one, compared to dishing out a few $100's for one? Or is it not that simple?

You could definitely build one and save some money if you have the skills but it’s not necessary easy and still can require a substantial investment by the time you purchase all the components.
