I woke up this morning to find my newly acquired mandarin goby in the claws of my emerald crab. He was battling with eating. I thought i had a plentiful amount of copepods but i guess i didn't. I'm planning to set up another tank but i believe i need to get better knowledge on pods. In light of all this i went to my lfs and picked up a Tomini tang. He's a little guy but my yellow tang is giving him hell. What should i do

For future reference, a title that reflects your question or situation would be helpful and lead more people to read and reply. The only reason I opened this thread was because of a lack of replies. Luckily, I think I can help.

Also it is more helpful if you provide tank size, age of tank, tankmates, etc when posting a query.

1) your mandarin was probably dead before the emerald got to it

2) adding one tang to another is often dangerous. Zebrasoma especially if the lone tang remaining can be particularly aggressive (yellow is a zebrasoma tang). This thread may be helpful to you:

Thank you. It was very informative.

Glad you found it so! Hope my candor didn't come off as rude, I was just trying to help in the future so your questions are answered quickly and properly. :)

Not rude at all. I'm a humble reefer. I don't know a lot. Every bit of knowledge i acquire is greatly appreciated. Hard for me to go wrong with all the great advice i am getting. I'm a DIY kinda guy so I'm always looking for my own way but always listen to experience. Again i thank you.

Your 55g is too small for any tang let alone two. Your YT will likely not leave the tomini alone until its dead.

When you say you went to LFS and picked one up today and now they are together I can only assume you aren't QT-ing your fish. This practice will end badly sooner or later. Just trying to save you some grief, and some coin.

I don't have a QT right now but i plan for one in the future. But since i have started this thread, i have turned the lights completely off and they have stopped their fussing. I'll update tomorrow.

Today, the yellow and tomini tangs are still fussing but not as bad. I could see where the yellow got the tomini 's tail a little bit but nothing crazy. I put 2 clips with sea weed on opposite sides of the tank so there's no did competition. I boosted the feeding amount also. Hopefully this will help
