Hi Everyone
I'm CORY-GIRL and flyfisher2's daughter. I am completely new at this hobby but thought I would help my dad finish my mom's reef tank
We are all very thankful for your love and support

That's so awesome from you to make Eve's Reef a fact together with your dad.
He needs all the support he can get, all is it just a shoulder to lean on.
Don't hesitate to ask us questions no matter what they are, even none reef related questions some times will make a difference too.

Ben.

You and your dad are truly inspirational Welcome to R2R! As you have found out there is alot of love here on R2R So glad to have you here:)

Thank you for keeping her dream alive and moving forward. I did not know her and regret getting a chance to. I know that you will make her proud of what you accomplish with her system. I hope it thrives and goes beyond all expectations to become a continuance of her life.

Cycling Issues

I could use some input...

I started the 180 up Dec 18th. Salinity is at 1.25, PH 8.0. I used Florida base rock and sand. I added 50 pounds of Carib Sea live sand. I added three large shrimp and they have since dissolved. I just added 4 more about a week ago. The ammonia just hit.50. No Nitrite readings. Was I wrong in adding more shrimp? Should I be concerned about Nitrates? I would really prefer to not add any live rock to this system.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her, the family and all other loved ones.

When you are ready for livestock, I have some easy to keep frags (SPS and LPS- whatever you like) for you if you would like them. I am local, so just send me a PM.

I wouldn't be worried about Nitrite at all.
If you been cycling since Dec 18 you should be fine.
Just take the shrimp out and test the next 5 days for the ammonia to go down.
If ammonia is within range 0.1 than start looking for your first cheap fish (Damsel or so).
If the first fish will be ok than after a week you can ad a nicer fish.
After 3/4 weeks you can ad some easy corals.
Mean while keep testing on your PO4 and ammonia.
It's good to know also where your PH, ALK, CAL and MAG is by next weekend.
Let us know where you at with your # in a few days.

Make sure your salt is 1.026......not 1.25.

Thanks Diesel… the salinity is 1.026 as of right now.
Ammonia is at .50
Nitrite is showing zero
I will test other parameters tomorrow and give a full report.
