So since my skimmer is overflowing, i was suggested to put carbon in my sump to hopefully clear out any chemicals that may be affecting my sump. Is this a good spot for it?

Is this a new skimmer? Sometimes they need a break in period to settle down or playing around with the water level by raising and lowering the skimmer to find the right height for it to work properly. But, to answer your question like was mentioned above they can be placed anywhere but works better if there is some flow going through the bag. I put a bag in the filter sock if I need to run GAC.

What do you think about putting it in the filter sock (or the area where you water drains into the sump)? Reactors maximize the usage compared to bags, but bags still function. I think the key is to get a decent amount of flow through the bag.
