Good Clam?

LFS gave me a free small piece if live rock when I went to buy a sand shifting starfish. Just noticed a clam of some sort attached to it. Did I score or is this a bad thing? Still kinda new to this hobby thank you!

Looks like a Mussel to me. Has the bi-value bored into the rock?
I'll look again at mine. They're a light maroon brown with a lighter stripe. They don't bore.
But they do move around the tank.
 
@Tahoe61 I could be completely wrong, I had Id mine as clams based on their mouthparts some time ago. Naturally they are being shy and I cant see them.the one on the right was a grain of rice when I found it and I shoved it into a hole right there. Probably 8 or 9 months ago?

Just noticed theres white strings floatin from the same rock? are these safe?
