Hi, I have ten gallon tank and am looking for some nice, hopefully inexpensive, corals.

Edit: this will be a coral only tank as it is my main interest and easier to maintain:)

Glad you’re doing this! I did this nine years ago and I loved it!

so easy to do and take care of. Just remember to do water changes and make sure your levels are exactly the same! And with temp! With it only being a ten gallon tank, you can run into issues fast if you’re changing your water chemistry to quickly. Biggest problem you’ll see is algae.

(I did my water changes twice a week)
If you make sure you stay on top of that, I wouldn’t even run a skimmer, or even a filter. You could do a filter and just run carbon in the back, would be very simple and cheap.
A small power head will do too, Point It up so the water moves a fair amount.

Now let’s talk what corals to add to a 10G!!!
-Mushrooms are my top pick!!!
mushrooms are so simple and you really can’t kill a mushroom!
-Kenya Trees, simple easy beginner coral!
-Zoas are also a very easy one, target feeding is awesome for a 10G!
-Candy Cane Coral, very easy to keep.
- Pulsing Xenia is very very easy for this and pretty much will tell you if there’s ever a problem with your tank, they’ll close up on you.
-GSP(Green Star Polyps) is a very fast grower, and can strive under the right conditions! Great for starters.

Also something else that would be cool which I didn’t do, I would add a mangrove to this setup, not only would it get natural lighting(plus some tank lighting) but I would be pretty cool for a 10G tank, plus you can even slap it in a hang on filter, haha!

More reefers will comment on this too!
Don’t for shy to ask me any questions! I’m free anytime, haha. Would love to help yoh

My vote is for Cyphastrea. Comes in so many different colors, is not aggressive as far as warfare is concerned. Does well in all kinds of lighting, will encrust on just about anything, and their is even a branching variety now. Did I mention it’s easy to care for also......... sorry, I’m on a cyphastrea kick as of late.

Thank you so much!! This was a big help :) :D

I can’t find the forum post, but all she did was put in a few corals and a 40-70 gallon AquaClear filter in her 10 And she did water changes bi-monthly. She did have to dose though, would it work??

Duncan's are a nice started LPS for you to try. Welcome to R2R and good luck my friend.... I wish you many healthy tanks in the future.... Believe me, you will not stop at the 10g lol :)

I was just gonna suggest duncans.

OP- here are some more suggestions: not LPS but worth looking into. i LOVE LPS too. but here are some other great choices.
rock flower nems supper hardy bright and easy to care for.
most leathers toad stool
gorgs- IMHO one of the most underrated corals
some nice macro would look cool too.
for GPS go with the branching verity

welcome to R2R lots of great folks on here so dont be shy and ask many questions.

Also in a 10 Gallon tank be cognizant of the corals you are buying potential size down the line. Some of the corals mentioned get big... :)

^ very good point but softies are easy to frag and give away, or toss. but non the less something to consider for sure.

OP I have a 18.5 gal rock flower nem only tank click my build thread badge to check it out if you like.
