Shop just dropped the price of this Hellfire Anemone to $30...it's about 1.5 inches I think and I was just wondering if this is a fair or good price for one and also pick up a little knowledge about them if anyone is willing to share!
Thanks in advance! Screenshot_2022-11-05-04-19-38-019_jp.naver.line.android.jpg

Bump... anyone know about these guys?

If it's a true Hellfire anemone of the genus Actinodendron, I'd steer clear. They are OVERLY aggressive. Even by anemone standards. They will aggressively sting and rapidly kill anything they contact including most fish and corals.

Also worth noting that these have a sting that is powerful enough to actually affect us as well. Seen other divers brush against them and get very large welts.

They live up to their names thats for sure, I wouldn't try it unless i had cool symbiotes, the anemone is kinda the center piece and there's a few crabs that are also hard to find that go with it. They'll pretty much eat anything they catch too, most fish wouldn't survive it.

Getting stung by it literally feels like you're lighting your hand on fire, its bad. The other scary part is unlike our typical anemones it doesn't just plug you with nemocytes, it leaves the tentacles detached on your skin like jellyfish do, which is very hard to remove.

If you're daring enough to try it in its own display for 'been there done that' sake (cause it'll decimate anything in your main display i guarantee that, they move), wear extra long gloves, and do not hesitate to rinse yourself in vinegar and hot water if you made any contact or even just incase.. (it has this really freaky few minute delay before the hell begins.)

I've heard rumors the sting haunts victums too and comes back years later, I don't know how true that is but I've heard enough stories from victums claiming it happens to them that I'm in some belief of it. Stories range from permanant scars that never vanished, to actual chronic repeated attacks years later as if they got stung again.

I actually have a little 5 gallon with some live rock, sand, and a HOB filter with no inhabitants...do they look cool in person?

What kind of flow would it need? I only have a HOB filter on that tank right now

Not sure, I think rule of thumb is copying carpet anemone care will work just fine for them. It *might* need more fed than carpets but that's purely assumption with how aggressive they are, usually something that potent likes to eat.
