I have a 15gal but was advised to reboot....restart it because of a major hair algae problem. So with that said we are upgrading it to a 30 or 45gal :). ANY and all recommendations are welcomed. Can't wait!!!!

Welcome to R2R!! My best advice is to research around the forum and take your time. A little patience goes a long way in good hobby. Best of luck with the reboot!

Take your time. Caution during the entry phase equals less waste and rework on the backend. Do your research. Don't be in a rush. Ask LOTS of questions if you're unsure. :)

Good Luck!

Bonne Chance, I recently restarted the hobby after putting it away for about 12 years. I know how you feel hair algae sucks, keep those phosphates down. May the force be with you..

Welcome to R2R;)

Welcome home! You'll love it here.

Sounds like the sickness already got ya! :D

Welcome and enjoy.
The biggest thing is patience. What I'm seeing across all the boards I read are with the basic biological filter. Rushing the curing and beginning the cycle.
It's gonna be a month. People hate to wait. But there's a guy on this board who got sold a whole set up by the Lfs with live stock and all and it's only 3weeks old from scratch and is gonna start crashing soon.
Use your old sand cap it with live sand. A little prime a little Fiji mud imo and your old live rock to seed. Mechanical Filtration should depend on what you want to grow by removing the excess of what the bio filter can't process. But the bio filter need to be grown first like a Petri dish. After a month it's ready for small live stock but you'll have little alge and cyano and diatoms blooms that's normal. Prob actually be 6 months till it's actual even close to mature.

I have a bucket of dry sand and rock in my garage for a new tank. I put in old tank water as seed and a power head. It stank for two weeks and then stopped as the bacteria grew enough to process the waste.
It's been in the bucket for a month now and all the water parameters are perfect and the water is clear.
