Is it a new tank? Looks like diatoms to me. They are common in new tanks and will disappear once the silicates are used up. Nothing to worry about.

Its just the sign that your tank is coming alive :-)
How long has it been set up? Time for some snails?

Yea first is diatoms and then they die back and most likely will be green cyano..

I would not add snails until they actually have something to eat in the algae department, the cyanobacteria and diatom blooms are not an ideal food source for snails if they eat it at all.

Probably just diatoms, You using a RODI right?

Had bad outbreaks when I started tank and didnt use RODI

Don't use distilled water, for reasons indicated above. Get yourself a ro/di filter and make your own water. It will save you money in the long run a takes all impurities out of the water.

I have diatoms I am trying to control. My original 55 gallon was set up for 3 yrs and then I combined it with an existing 125 gallon. I did this back in June 2015. About 3 to 4 weeks ago I started having diatoms as soon as I clear the glass they return in a few hours. I am also having very high nitrates (they do not seem to affect anything living in the tank though) ... any ideas?

Might actually be dinoflagellates.
