I'm still awaiting for the new boss to figure it out.

There are few things worse than having to train your own boss. I was a bartender for a while, and I had to train 5 different managers how to bartend. I eventually quit because of that.

Morning all!!!! Woke up to my mail box knocked over lol. Got to fix that it seems. Dang narrow country roads. The mirror from whatever hit is is in the ditch also lol. Sucks for them.

Note: my mailbox is on a 4” black iron pipe sunk 5’ in the ground with a plate of steel welded to the top and tapped on the sides for bolts to hold the actual mailbox. After the first 5 mailboxes died and I had to keep digging up posts, I said heck with that.

I learned the hard way not to hit mailboxes. I had the joys of replacing about 5 one day. Driving on the ice in the South is truly terrifying. But I got really good at digging in the frozen ground.

Snow ok, ice in Tennessee or anywhere in the south is no good. Most the time it is black ice,
you never see it, it’s in a curve, and only on one set of wheels lol.

Roads were all white. Louisiana. One ice storm every 2 -3 years. I had just gotten my license. Learned real quick not to press brakes in a turn. I now live in Montana. I can't drive on snow either. Once a southern flatlander, always one.

Southerners driving on ice or snow is scary period! I hate ice storms...they're the worst. Fortunately, here we get an occasional snow and icy roads. I just don't venture out and let the crazies have at it!

I JUST PULLED THE ULTIMATE BONEHEADED MOVE!
So, there is one little spot in the back of my tank that is a “dead zone”. About 3 square inches of sand bed that collects detritus, etc. I can see it when I’m sitting in my easy chair so I decided to vacuum it and do a water change while I was at it. I normally clean the sand bed once a week and change water every couple of days. ( only about a gallon each time )!
Normally just start my siphon and keep the end of the hose near the top of the tank and watch the catch bucket on the floor.
I started my siphon and reached in to bring the hose to the dirty area to vacuum. It was cleaning up nicely until I felt my socks getting wet. Well, the bucket end of the hose was in my hand but nowhere’s near the bucket.
Gallon of salt water, sand and fish poop all over the carpet.
Feel free to make fun. I deserve it!
Luckily, we own a carpet shampoo’er!

sorry, but it are kinda funny. I've done it looking right at it. the buckets filling up and I lift the bucket end of the hose instead of the tank side.

Im laughing about it now but there were some strong words said when I realized what had happened.

I am super disappointed that I missed this very fun sounding weekend thread!
I am moving to the Bitterroot Valley in Montana in April 2021. I actually grew up in Missoula, Montana and moved to Seattle, Washington when I was 17 years old. It will be interesting moving my four (4) aquariums and their inhabitants from Seattle, WA to Florence, MT. The one thing I know that I will miss is the abundance of pure water. We have well water in Montana and I actually have no idea what types of minerals there will be in the water. Where are you from in Montana and if you live anywhere near the Bitterroot or Sapphire Mountains, any idea about the water? We will have a Reverse Osmosis gizmo of course, it’s the tap water for my big freshwater tank that I’m worried about. I currently use ~1/2 RO and 1/2 tap water filtered with a 20 micron drinking water filter. Our water in Seattle is ‘pure as the driven snow’ and virtually contains no chemicals or minerals. The pH = 7.2.

I’m in West Yellowstone and we have a spring for City water. The Rockies in general have very clean water. We don’t chlorinate. There is radon and I think uranium. My tap is around 20 to 30 TDS.
