Good Morning!

Morning

Guess I better down an energy drink and do some stuff around the house. Just got back from 5 days in the Dells so not very motivated. My son on a boat we rented. His favorite spot.

Your son looks like mine! Long haired ocean lover! That made me smile.

Good morning
Visited Reef Keepers In Clayton NC. It's 3 minutes from the kids house. I came home with 60 pounds of CaribSea life rock shapes for the new tank.
Very nice place.
That coffee stuff. I need to do that.

I have a few pieces of that. I'd like to see what you do with yours. We are planning our scape for the shallow tank.

Good morning everyone :)

I’m sitting in a hotel at Topsail with my 6yo. We were supposed to go offshore fishing this morning but the boat broke down. Now we’re waiting until 3pm for the next boat. Fish until 8pm and then drive 4hrs home ;Dead

Get a room and make it an overnighter, My kids loved that......Good luck fishing

Good Morning. I put this on my tank thread but since it was early in the morning, I put it here also.
So this morning I went for my walk, Bike ride. Down the 167 steps to the beach and I noticed that it was dead low tide.

I have never been on this beach, behind my house before at dead low tide and I noticed that there were seaweed covered rocks exposed. Seaweed covered rocks are to me like High Heels to a Supermodel so I walked (not very fast) the 100 yards or so to the place and started lifting rocks.

I was in my glory that there were amphipods all over the place like weirdoes at a Lady GaGa concert.
( I know because our Daughter got us tickets to one of those. Girls "walking" their boyfriends on dog collars didn't do it for me)

The beach is very clean, not even a nose hair to be found so I didn't have anything to put amphipods in but I needed to get some as the tide changes an hour each day and the tide wouldn't be this low at this time in the morning for a very long time and I was very disappointed that I couldn't get any.

I started to walk back to the stairs when just then, out of nowhere, I see a plastic bottle.

I rush over and pick it up. I was thirsty and it was half filled with a dark liquid. I removed the cap and brought it up to my lips and........No, I didn't drink it. I was born at night but not last night. I smelled it and it was Coke.

I poured it out and rinsed it out. Now I started to collect amphipods, but the mouth of the bottle was small so I had to collect them one at a time. I don't know if you have even gone amphipod collecting but as soon as you lift a rock, the amphipods run like they are just missing the five PM train out of Manhattan on Fourth of July Weekend.
So you can only get one as the rest run away and jump off the rock. Collecting this way doesn't yield too many pods.
I normally swish the rocks in a bucket of water which i didn't have so I only got maybe 25 amphipods.

I didn't want my fish to eat them because these were very big so they were breeders. I put some under my UG filter and the rest I added behind the rocks in the dark.

I may go tomorrow an hour later as it will be low tide again but hotter so going up all those stairs will be tough.

Sunset fishing will be better anyway. :)

So would I. I have 60 pounds of Life rock shapes here and I ordered 80 pounds of regular life rock from BRS and 150 pounds of live rock from TBS.
So I have 290 pounds to stick somewhere. It adds up to be a 330 gallon system so I think that will be about enough. I will wait and get the live rock in the tank and going and then do an aquascape.
Right now I can just arrange them on a table for fun.

Unfortunately we live no where near the ocean. I wish we did. Waterparks are his thing. The bigger the slide the better. When we went to Hawaii we took him to the ocean. We asked him what he liked better the ocean or the hotel pool and he said pool. He gets bored quickly on lakes or the ocean. I read an article about surfers taking special needs kids for rides. I’m sure he would probably love to do that. He’s autistic by the way.

Check out Discovery Cove in Orlando. They are just his cup of tea. They also specialize in Autistic interaction. :)

OK. I had never considered it as an option until I saw it. I don't have the ability to look at pics on the internet and get a sense of scale.
60 pounds (3 boxes) on a card table.

The guy at Reef Keepers said 7 boxes would do my tank. There are 4 basic shapes that are the same in each box. I was afraid of getting a lego block effect so I ordered some regular round stuff to fill in.

We are mixing ours as well.

I should also mention it is sold by weight. One box only had 3 pieces in it.
There is a cave the size of half a soccer ball and 2 arches and then a small odd shape that seems to be added to get 20 pounds if it is needed.
While I think 3 of each will not be too hard to disguise by turning and flipping I wasnt sure about 7 of each. The guy at Reef Keepers said it is all he uses now.
He had some beautiful live rock but it was $14 a pound. Too rich for me.
