Good morning. But this post scares me. If we remove our living room carpet... What will the floors look like? The floors are all wood.

You are in Illinois. Much less humidity than Florida. We have had problems with the wood floor since week one. They charged us this insane amount of money to use this special glue that was expected to serve as a vapor barrier. They did not install it properly, so some areas were super glued and others were not fully covered. There was some early delamination that no one would cover. Ultimately, we laid a vinyl (LPV) floor over it. The RODI flood that I had a few months ago apparently reached this area. The wood swelled and the LPV buckled.
Looking at the concrete right now... it looks like the surface of the moon. This was not what we expected. Unless they are going to grind the flood before they leave.... I have no idea how we are going to lay that LPV back down flat. It is like a never ending nightmare. I am sure that the evaporation on the reef does not help the RH in the house but this home had a moisture issue in this slab before we ever moved in.
@Mibu you are probably good. 1 - air and moisture will not be trapped by the carpet 2- you are probably on a plywood subfloor - not concrete. There are many things to love about Florida. Slab foundations are not one of them.
Update: Here comes the grinder ... and a new layer of concrete and epoxy to fix the surface of the moon. Another $1500....

Good morning! Mini vacation here, too....much needed after this week. Just a quick trip to Nashville to see the newest grand and the other 2-year-old. I did get my fish for the BioCube yesterday. The firefish looks very healthy and seems to be doing well. I haven't seen the possum wrasse since it went in the tank (alive). Wrasses generally don't ship very well. I could have sworn my former flasher wrasse was dead, but he ended up doing well for several years. I've tried feeding a tiny bit a few times, but no wrasse yet. I'm still hopeful it will make an appearance and is just hiding in the rock.

I'm enjoying a "nothing" Friday for a change. We're not leaving until tomorrow, so I will just do fun things like laundry today. I hope you all have a great Friday and weekend! ;Joyful

I can give you pictures of the floor from the basement, the kitchen floor from the bottom looks very rugged. This house was built in 1880. The living room floor is kind of sunken in. The fish room has the best looking boards, all underneath viewing. Top upstairs just meeds sanding and a few boards replaced. There's plywood on top of some floor boards. Makes me wonder what they are hidding.
We have to run a dehumidifier when it rains, the basement walls are covered in water. It's how the house is designed. So we upgraded the gutters to help route water away.
This old house is brick and hardwood. Needs a lot of TLC

I love old houses. I got my start in historic restoration. A lot of those 1800's to turn of the century houses needed sump pumps in the basement. It is a worthy challenge for sure. Depending on the wood, you may be able to get some strips and stain to match the areas they filled with plywood. It just sounds like they took a short cut to fix some damage and covered it with carpet.
My house is in a state of brown out right now. These guys have somehow hooked into my electrical panel to run the equipment. Good news.... that battery backup I made for the Sicce XStream wavemaker works.

Depending on the wood, you may be able to get some strips and stain to match the areas they filled with plywood. Yes - that kitchen is scary.
Living room looks to be oak.
I always vote strip carpets, sand floors and refinish.
Then again ... I'm an interior designer, so I'm just programmed that way. I think carpet is the scourge of the earth. Think about all of dustmites, skin flakes and other nasty things in the carpet. Licking a filter sock is cleaner than letting a baby crawl on carpet. BLECH

I have a nice white tipped toadstool and an indo frogspawn in here. There is also a mix of zoas and other montis that I am destined to kill. Monti's are like ferns to me, can't grow them but I keep trying.

Good Morning! It is going to be a good weekend. Poker run party tomorrow and Reef lunch Sunday.
Household repair/improvement projects are wonderful. I remember a time when it was code for "you need to find somewhere else to crash".
I have had:

install a privacy fence for the property perimeter to accommodate our furry frolickers
re-floor the bath to eliminate water damage
wall-to-wall carpet removal to expose hardwood floors and eliminate odors from said furries.
replace black pipe water supply with copper
dining room wallpaper removal, living room, stairs, landing wall repair and paint
an Elm removed from the back yard
75 gal reef aquarium with basement sump and water mixing station
house and garage roof replacement
furnace/AC replacement
basement bedroom tearout because of mold
basement wall flex seal to prevent seepage (90% successful)
a 70' pine removed from the side yard
my next is going to be the kitchen: ceiling, walls, cabinets, back splash, countertops, range, add an exhaust hood, plumbing. floor.
maybe replace the sink and stove for the complete gut, but I'm keeping the fridge, !!.
thinking about it is easier than doing it, but planning the aquarium and executing that plan has helped to see it as manageable.

When we redid our wood floors (I know your pain CMMorgan) I wanted to put them in myself. I talked to a guy about it at the wood flooring store. He said, "Do you live in a house where if you wife's not happy, then nobody's happy?" I said of course. He simply said, "don't do it yourself".
