Good morning! The weather guru is predicting 1-2" tonight, so that probably means we'll get a foot lol.

Having fun with FedEx this week - had a package start in Indy, end up in Green Bay on Sunday, then for some reason got sent to Chicago, and is now back in Green Bay this morning to be delivered.. Glad its not livestock lol

Good morning/afternoon.
Feeling really guilty today. My daughter's freshwater fish has died and she was really attached to it. I think it may be mostly my fault. She was here for Christmas break and had an outbreak of the algae that makes freshwater green and cloudy. It's a 10 gal tank. It was getting fairly cloudy and I told her to turn the light out. Two days later she said the fish were fine and I reminded her that they needed the water change she had been putting off. She didn't clean the gravel because I did it a week or so ago and there are only 2 medium fish. She changed about 50% of the water yesterday and left for school. Everything was fine a couple of hours later. This morning her two fish were dead and the cloudiness was white (the algae was dead). Ammonia was high, but there may have been dead fish in there for over 12 hours and I'm not sure how much that would raise the ammonia. Maybe dead/rotting algae had been piling up on the bottom and I said not to clean the gravel, but she had just changed half the water. I don't know what to think. Any ideas?

I'm sorry about the tank. We've had our share of freshwater disasters over the years. Maybe the 50% water change was too much and threw something out of whack, combined with the sudden algae die off? I'm just taking a guess here. It's been a long time since I dealt with FW tanks. I generally change 10-20% of the water on my SW BioCube, which is a 16-gallon tank. You shouldn't beat yourself up about it. These things happen...

Good morning. No big plans today. Maybe glue the bird together and paint it with primer. I rarely do water changes on my freshwater tank. It's been up many months and I may have done 2 of 20%. It's had a lot of fish and shrimp through it. I never use whack in my tanks so I don't have to worry about going out of it. Once I get the hardness where I want it I just use RODI water for evaporation. Add a few small sea shells to the tank for buffering.
Snow tomorrow evening maybe.
My friends dont do hopeful, just demanding.
 
I just got back from my favorite LFS and came out with two dragon faced pipefish, a female ruby red dragonette to replace mine that was egg bound and exploded and about an 11 inch piece of rock covered in Zoa's.

The pipes were ten bucks each and the ruby red was $16.00. The Zoa rock was about $45.00 or so.

This is a very old picture and not one of my new guys. I love these little girls because they point at me like one of my old girlfriends when they were mad :rolleyes:

Good Morning! It's 15 and snowing. We are expecting a foot this week. We got about an inch last night. Should be a fun 16 hour day today. I have a meeting with the regional manager this evening at my second job. I went off on a couple of coworkers last week because they didn't plow the parking lot. One of the managers offered me a promotion after doing it. The company had to pay over 7 grand to have a company come out and plow. I expect them to be fired. Have a great day and stay safe!
 
Good morning. Yesterday I worked on my 34 gallon. Water change, cleaned the sump, took apart and cleaned all pumps and power heads. Removed skimmer and putting in a refuge. With just 3 fish the skimmer doesn’t do much as far as skimming anyway. Also ordered a Reef Brite Hybrid light for this tank. Metal halide/led combo, yes I am going back to mh. My current led light is 8 years old and par meter an inch under water is only 100. Time to replace it! Had a productive day.

Sorry about the fish loss. My very first tank in 1979 was a 10 gallon FW. I knew nothing about it back then. Got a fresh water Angel and a few neon tetras. Store told me to do water changes once a month. That was it. Never used any dechloronizing products or preheated the water. The fish lived for 8 years and was so big when it stretched out its streamers the top one came out of the water. Poor fish, no one told me it would need a bigger tank. To this day I don’t now how the fish survived for so long!

Most people do. I don't know why this guy could sell firefish and most gobies for six or seven bucks when other places charge twenty five or thirty.

I would like to change some water soon because I tore my rotator cuff (for the sixth time) and soon, after the surgery, I won't be able to use my arm. It is tough carrying sea water with one arm. :oops:
