Anyone have suggestions on a good online nem vendor?

Any nem in particular you're looking for?

I got a gorgeous green LTA from @Vivid Aquariums that came in around 4" and ended up at 14" within a year before I broke that tank down and gave it to my niece and her fiancé.
I got a few btas from local reefers for ~$40 each. Couple orange/green and an insanely pink(not bleached)/almost blueish-green.

If you're into the super fancy named ones, type in acid rain bta. They have a bunch of expensive ones

I would not mind if someone was selling genuine things for the market price - or even a little more. That’s a business model issue.

But when a business sells stuff marketing as gold. That’s a different story. Or telling you to pay them now while they go hunt that anemone down so you can wait just enough time that is past the PayPal recovery period.

Horrible!

To be honest, not sure on the type yet. This tank is going to be a nem build and I am debating what I want the main/only nem to be

Well, first thing to do would be figure out which anemone(s) you want to keep.

You may be able to source bta's, possibly mag, from people here. If those are what you are looking for.

Gigs may be more difficult to source, especially if there is a specific color you would like. Multiple vendors seem to have a lot of haddoni's, but again, specific color would be hard to track down.

H. malu or crispa seem to be random.

The bta's I currently have were:
1. one local aquacultured rbta- have had for one year, split in to three so far
2. one wild, rainbow bta from LA/DD- have had for one year, split in to three so far
3. one wild, green bta from LA/DD- have had for one year, struggling but much better
3. three different green bta's from AquaSD- recent purchases, 9 days, doing well

Probably the easiest you could go with is a local, aquacultured rbta as they are hardy and will not limit you on fish choices.

I’d prefer buying anemones local so you can see it first hand, but if your local scene is like mine nice anemones come through few and far between. Most of my local stores are all trying to sell bleached out nems.

I got lucky when a local shop got in 2-3 batches from local reefers and all were quality. They were all RBTA but there were clearly 3 different styles/lineages. So it’s nice seeing them in person.

All of my H. Mags came from DD.

I am leaning towards either a BTA or possibly a Haddoni but need to research the specifics more before making a final decision. Since it will be my first nem, I am currently leaning towards a BTA. @Amoo any thoughts on a good first nem species?

If you were a new reefer @Shep I would probably recommend a BTA, but really y0u have the knowledge and experience with other things and have basically "mastered" reefing to the point where I feel you can reach out a little.

My advice would be if as an experienced reefer with no Nem experience wants a nem, they should do the proper research (lighting, meds, meida, feeding...etc), all of which you're doing, then pick the nem that you think you want long term.

Think of a nem like, I dunno let's pick a coral, strawberry millie. There are a bunch of different corals and all respond slightly different to different conditions. On top of that the same coral and even parts of the same colony will act differently in a different person's tank.

My point is, if you've had a strawberry millie colony for 3 years you would probably know the colony very well. If you suddenly wanted a strawberry shortcake, you would have experience to draw from, but know it wouldn't act exactly like your millie, it would be a bit different. So yeah, get what you think you will want long term, would be my advice for a hyper aware experienced reefer.

Well now I want Strawberries! lol Do you have a down and dirty thread/article on all things nems?(If you dont, you should write one! https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/r...may-the-best-article-win.377380/#post-4611260)

I have a response for you, but it's not appropriate for a public forum :P

Seriously though, look around at the pros and cons of each, see what you can find availablish and see what you think you can handle. Once you have an idea, "we" can probably try to help steer you from there.

(fwiw my biggest reservation to writing articles is the pictures. I hate using other folks pictures.)
