I have been watching this crab for about 3 weeks on my milli. It looks like he has been just eating at the coral.Where he has been sitting is starting to turn white. So i just took him off the coral. I have a couple of good acro crabs, but he doesnt look like them. Let me know what you guys think? Thanks:bigsmile:

Could it be a juvenile Gorilla crab? I have heard the ones with pointed claws are the ones to watch out for, in terms of predation on other livestock. I've never heard them to bother corals though. Maybe others can chime in.............

His legs don't look hairy so I don't think gorilla crab. He looks like a odd colored and bumpy acro crab to me. The spot he's sitting in is bleaching from lack of light. Like Caudill I am not sure tho.

I would admit tho, his claws look a little worrisome, I prob would have pulled him as well.

Its not from lack of light i have plenty. The rest of the coral looks awesome exept where he was sitting. Thanks for the comment tho:wink:

Looks like black tips on the claws which IF I remember right is one of the signs to toss it. Either way thats an ugly one IMO and I would have pulled it anyways lol

Looks like perfect octopus food. Send it my way and we will see if he is as angry as an octo.

I looked up Xanthid crabs and none of the pics looked like this one. Anyone else know anything????

Not really sure but the only true good acro crabs are smooth with no lumps so they can go in and out of the branches incredibly fast. That guy kinda looks like a clunker lol. I have like 5 or 6 bandit acro crabs and they are pretty cool to watch moving from one acro to the other if one goes into the others territory although they rarely leave their host especially when they are being fed. Spoiled lil guys..!! :)
