Photo's are not great, but to me they look like the bad one's that have the white fiberglass type
thing-a-ma-gig's,.... on their spines. And don't look like to me the fire worms ?

We lost two young clams, I'll bet because of these.

Look to be common Bristle Worms to me. Highly doubtful they're the cause of your clams demise. More likely the clams were already dying and the worms were attracted to the smell. I speak from personal experience.

I wish I could see the difference between the good & bad, even looking at the few photo's I've seen.
I don't mind of course, having the good type, but I don't want to transfer them to the 125g mixed reef when I get the setup done, if any are going to hurt/kill corals and clams !
