Hi guys!
I’ve had my tank set up for a few months now. i have 5 corals, two clowns, a lawnmower blenny, and some snails. My tank is 120l (30 gal). The fish (clowns) have been in there’s since the beginning of February. Ive just purchased two yellow tailed damsels, they’re quite small, smaller than all my other fish. I knew they had a reputation for being somewhat aggressive, but I’ve seen more often than not (when I searched up clownfish compatibility) that they could be in the same tank if added last. I’ve just added them within the last 40 minutes, and my clowns are somewhat cowering in the corner refusing to move. I’m a bit concerned that the damsels might become the “alphas” of the tank, which I don’t want.
Any advice or tips would be helpful. Thank you.

Yes the damsels will probably become the alphas of the tank. You can observe for awhile, and at some point you may decide to remove them. It’s too bad because many of them are so pretty...

Believe it or not, clowns are actually in the same family as damsels. Chrysiptera damsels tend to be some of the “least aggressive” when it comes to Damsels. I’ve found this genus to bicker amongst themselves more often then badger others. Not to say they are peaceful by any means. Given enough rock work to have their own territory, it’s usually not a huge issue. I definitely would not attempt adding any more than what you have. Their attitudes tend to change when they get older. My Azure’s never cause any problems with my Clowns. My Clowns are actually pretty mean. They definitely hold their own. They are a good size though. “Gladiator Clowns”
Damsels tend to pester each other for the most part. And coexist with the rest of their tank mates without issue. I would say the Azure is probably less aggressive than your yellow tails though. I’ll be adding a group of 10 Azure’s to my new tank. Hard to beat for their splash of color and movement. And they’re inexpensive. Damsels always get bad rap, but I’ve always had a soft spot for them. Now there are some damsels I would in no way add to a tank, but this genus isn’t terrible.
I’d just keep an eye on them.

Thank you :)
I just have a question, one of the damsels I brought today hasn’t shut it’s mouth and hasn’t stopped swimming in the sameness place since I added it. Is something wrong with it? I don’t know why it’s mouth is open.

I have 2 yellow tails and 3 clowns in my tank. The damsels pick at each other mostly, sometimes the bigger one goes after my small clown. But it’s nothing crazy. It’s best to show a pic of this damsel with the mouth issue.
