i know this aint the best tap water filter.. but for the time being will it do its job? or would i be better off just buying RO/DI water from LFS?

I'd get an R/O unit. You can find a bare bones unit on E-Bay for about the price of the filter above.

really?

can you pm me a link please .. i dont need nothing huge .. prolly just like 10-25gpd or so

The problem with the Tap water Filter is it has an extremely short lifespan, often as little as 15 to 20 gallons before it is completely exhausted. It is a small DI filter with some carbon thrown in. No RO, no sediment or particulate filter and very little carbon. Without a TDS meter you would never know its condition nad would probably be doing more harm than good by using exhausted resin which releases contaminants back into the treated water, often in larger amounts than it was originally since it is releasing all it has captured from the water it treated.

Be very cautious of e-bay quality RO or RO/DI systems, they are usually cheap for a reason. Almost always with RO/DI you really do get what you pay for!
The one listed in the last post is an RO only system which uses low quality very low capacity granular activated carbon instead of carbon blocks. It also has no DI, no pressure gauge and most importantly no TDS meter to gauge its condition. The GAC filters will be exhausted in about 300 total gallons of water, remember a RO system flushes 4 gallons to waste for every 1 good gallon of RO it makes so thats only 60 gallons of RO water and 240 gallons of waste. Start buying new carbon every 60 gallons and it does not look like such a good deal anymore.
Compare that system to one such as the 75 GPD Premium from www.buckeyefieldsupply.com and the differences in a true reef quality system become very apparent. Compare it to the MaxCap from www.spectrapure.com and , well there is no comparison.

For $169 with the 75 GPD Premium you get a 75 GPD name brand Dow Filmtec RO membrane, no secrets or surprises like the other one, a full sized 10" replacable 1 micron prefilter, a full sized 20,000 gallon, yes 20,000 gallons or 4,000 gallons of RO/DI water and 16,000 gallons of waste not 60 and 240 gallons like the other one and a full sized 10" vertical 20 oz refillable DI filter. Then you get a inline pressure gauge, a handheld TDS meter, a RO bypass valve, a flush valve, standard 10" clear canisters etc.

See it pays to look closely at what you buy. One may look outwardly similar but its what is inside that makes a big difference. Your $69 soon becomes $100 and then $150 and then.... and thats just in the first few months and only maybe 300 gallons of RO only water, still without DI.

wow thanks guys... both very useful... but AZ i think you got me thinking.. about buying that one for 169 .. if it comes with all that then mize well get it. cause i do have a 24gal nano and a 56gal tank

thank you both
