good or bad?

Hi,
I started this tank4 weeks ago. I went through the diatom bloom now I am not sure if this is coralline growing on top of this or if its cyano. If it is cyano how do I treat? turn off lights?

If it is cyano you can try and blow it off with a turkey baster or scrub it off. If it does not come off then it is coraline kind of hard for me to tell due to the picture quality. But from what I can see it is coraline

If it's corraline algae it shouldn't blow off with a turkey baster. It should look like it's staining the rock. It looks like good algae to me but I'm no expert Maybe someone with more expertise can chime in.

it looks like the rock is stained, or turning a different color. it looks like its part of the rock. I think maybe I do nothing for a day or two and see what it does. I will repost a pic then.

what would a conventional time frame for coralline to develop be?

Well the way I understand it is that it needs to be introduced to the tank first, it doesn't just show up out of the blue. Unless you used live rock and it was already there, 4 weeks is extremely fast for this to show up like that. It's usually within the 3rd or 4th month IME when things stabilize and Coralline algae really takes off. Heck, sometimes it takes three weeks to a month just for a tank to cycle, so that's why this seems so odd to me.

If your anywhere near the tank now just stick your hand in and try to remove it with your finger. If it rubs right off it's Cyanobacteria.

I had that stuff on my rockwork. It was too dark to be coralline but I could not scrape if off. I had an outbreak of bryopsis and treated with fluconazole and vibrant. Much to my surprise the stuff dissolved within 2 weeks. I wish I knew what it was

First few months of a new tank can bring a lot of crazy colored algaes. I doubt it's corraline at this point just because of the age of the system.
Sit back and relax, you're going to see a lot of weird stuff for the first six months to 1.5yrs.

So far not much change. I tried to scrape it off with my finger and I only could get very little off. Has not spread much.
