As my tank had developed I have noticed this red looking type of algae on my rock. It started in one location and now it's in about 3 locations. I pulled and one of them and it seems to remove rather easily. Yet, some are still on the rock and growing again. I took a picture of one of the locations I did not disturb. See photo. I have finally started to get a significant amount of purple rock in the tank yet, I'm not sure if this red stuff is part of that process. Thoughts...

I have noticed my sand getting a little browner as of late but that is the only thing I have to see different from the tank.

Its Cyano. Brush it off with a soft toothbrush and siphon. Check your phos and nitrates which i'd guess is high.
If high. chemipure elite will reduce it and keep it in check. Redicing or turning off whites a couple of days will also help with this as this bacteria is receptive to light.

My Nitrates are looking good. My phosphates were between .50 and .75. I did not actually touch to feel if it was slimy or not. I removed as suggested with a toothbrush and used a turkey baster to siphon the debris out of the tank. I will definitely turn down the white lights as well. Thanks for all the quick replies. Question @ JGT what is CUC?
