We are trying to make our decision on the protein skimmer so we can order and make sure we have where it will fit in our sump. These are what we are looking at for our 240gal with 75gal DIY sump.

'reef octopus protein skimmer'
Classic 202 S 8"
Regal 250 INT 10"
Regal DC 200

Any opinions or experience with these Would be appreciated to help us decide. Or even another option?

I had a reef octopus for years, but the company discontinued the pump mine used which made the skimmer worthless. I replaced it with a lifereef and couldn’t be happier. Made in the usa, skims great, and it will accept any pump you want, as long as it pushes the required amount of water.

It's my humble opinion that if you are planning on stocking heavy you're going to want to go with the Regal 250 INT or possibly think about the next size up too. Of course, it will take you quite a while to get to a heavy bioload though. Just my $.02.

I'll do my usual thing and throw Lifereef into the mix. Amazing skimmer, easy to set up and dial in. You can use any pump you want with it and aren't tied to a pump that might not be manufactured in a few years. You can also customize it in whatever colours you want to match your system :) If it's in the budget, totally worth every penny.

Also if you get the model with the removable flange you can purchase extentions to add height and contact time. You can customize the collection cup with fittings for external collection cups and so on. Without a doubt the most flexible skimmer you can purchase.

+1 on LifeReef! I missed the very last sentence in the Pattie's post.

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated. I will look into these.

Have owned Reef Octopus, Bubble King, Vertex and now Life Reef. Will be sticking with Life Reef. By far the easiest to adjust on the rare occasions it needs it. Also allows for a variety of pumps. Other than my Orpheks, the best choice I have made in terms of reef equipment.

I know eventually it will be stocked on the heavy side yes. Thanks

Thank you. Now I am thinking we need to really consider these. Going to look them up.
