Good pump for 12' head with 800 gph?

Hello folks, looking for a good pump to push water from basement sump. Suggestions?

If you wanted a submersible, I believe Mag's will push that high at that rate.

Iwaki would be an excellent go-to for external. (Or a clone, if you're willing.)

Check out the three Dolphin Ampmaster models...the main one that I'm positive will do the 12' is way-overkill like the Barracuda, but it's possible that one of the two smaller ones might do it.

@Winschuc don't Reeflo also make a smaller unit that still pushes that high?

I believe they do. I tried a dart/snapper from my basement, but couldn't get the pressure (16 ish feet). Running a barracuda now and couldn't be happier. Dial it back and it works great.

So the Reeflo option might be borderline, so if you're interested in that option, maybe check their flow curve on the smaller pump to see what flow they predict for 12'.

Mag 18 (~15' head) I used to run from basement with about 12' head produced around 700gph

Assuming external, I've had excellent success with Iwaki (one ran for me for 20 years .....) and PanWorld (have one that is 10 years running, and a few others that are approaching 5). Other than powerheads, I mostly don't use internal pumps.

I would always go iwaki if I can. If you need higher head pressure reeflo. Your case though Iwaki would be bullet proof and worry free!

At that amount of head pressure (12’) you need a pressure rated pump. External magnetic drive pressure rated pumps are designed to handle the head pressure and last.

In the flow rate and vertical length the OP stated, look at Iwaki or blueline/ Panworld. They are very dependable and as others have stated, last for years and years with little maintenance.

I use a Panworld 150ps return pump on my basement sump to my DT about the same distance. Years ago (late 90’s) I’ve used Iwaki and was very happy with them as well.

Thanks! Which pumps are pressure pumps? Iwaki 70 looks good but consumes 350watts, compare to some DC pumps only about 100 watts.

You're going to need to spend some wattage to get 800 gph net against 12'. I get about 1,200 gph out of my PW200 (290 watts if memory serves). Before that I got about 800 out of a PW150 (190 watts, again, if memory serves). All assuming minimization of flow robbers like manifolds, excessive twists and turns, and locline. Tried a Vectra M1 for kicks - was an obvious candidate for Flomax.

IMHO AC external magnetic pumps are ideal for your situation at a reasonable price pump. The DC execution in my mind would be the Abyzz.

What @ca1ore said....moving water vs gravity isn't done for free....more gravity = more watts.

Still not sure if you have a preference for internal or external, but consider a Dolphin Ampmaster on the list of contenders.

Also, a Mag 18 (or better) would do it 800 GPH @ 12'. Only 150 watts.

Don't fail to consider friction losses in your estimates too.....upsize your plumbing as needed so it doesn't force you into an even bigger pump.
