Hey all,

I have a 65 gallon tank that needs water movement. What would you recommend as far as quality, quantity, and size. Also, is there a difference between a powerhead and a wave maker? Thanks in advance.

If you're an idiot (or have a bunch of discretionary money), you pick up an Ecotech Marine VorTech MP40 for around $450, or two MP10’s. FYI, I’m the king of idiots because I have three MP40’s.

If you have an inkling of sense about you, you consider picking up two Koralia’s for about $50 or less a piece. I’m not familiar with a 65 gallon, but I would guess two Koralia Evolution 1050’s or 1400’s.

I would not recommend using the wave function on the Koralia’s….I had nothing but problems when doing this. In addition, it’s not truly “wave.”

I am a true believer in the mp40.

I like that the actual blades don't take up as much room as a koralia. yes they are expensive but I am glad I bought it.

I also have a rimless tank and hate wires over the edge. if I had a standard tank with a canopy I might hAve a diff opinion. but for my rimless I would not have done anything diff.

I have both MP40wES, two of them, and a Tunze 6105 with a controller. I like the Vortechs but I love the Tunze. The big difference is the Tunze is super solidly made and with a controller can make an awesome surge in my tank. The Vortech doesn't reach as far as the Tunze either. You can pay way less for Tunze, two 6095's would be great in a 65. Just my opinion.

Mp40's all the way if you have the coin. If not koralias are okay but there is simply no comparison between the 2.

I use to be a Vortech fan until I got my Tunze 6095's, I don't think I would ever purchase another Vortech.....

Sicce voyager 3's and 2's I run a mp10w on my 29 and Korallia 1350x2 on my 46 and 2x voyager2's and 1x voyager 3 on my 120 and love the voyager and mp10 but not so much the korallia

I have two 75 gallon tanks, both run 3 koralia 1400's on a "Natuaral Wave" timer. relatively inexpensive timer and compatable with the evolutions. I have extra front covers and impellers so cleaning becomes simply changing the dirty ones out and drop them in vinegar a soak.

I have mp10's on my 55, but if I could do it all over again I would go with Tunze. I LOVE Tunze products and it makes possible to control the flow a bit better. You can point Tunzes in the direction that you want.

Would it be best to use two Tunze 6095's with a controller or just one combined with something else. Also, can the Tunze's be bought in a set with a controller.

I used to have vortechs but replaced them with two tunzes and now like the tunze way better... ii i were you i would buy the two tunzes with a controller. i think you can find 2 tunzes sold with a controller on marinedepot but i may be wrong

I like Vortech's and have three of their pumps. However, if you don't have that kind of cash to drop in your tank, I recommend the JBJ Oceanstream wave maker with the 1600 GPH pumps. I have a pair of these in my 45 gal frag tank and they work great. They are low maintenance (even less than my Vortechs) and they have a wide flow pattern. The controller is adjustable from a few seconds to several minutes. A pair of the 1600 GPH should be fine in your 60 gal.

If you have the cash, then I recommend the MP40. One should be fine on your 60 gal.

JBJ Oceanstream Circulation Pump/Powerhead + Duo Wavemaker Kit

(they put these on sale for $99 pretty regularly)

There's so many choices I just can't decide which setup will be best for me. I've read reviews on everything you guys recommended and they all have their positives and negatives. I didn't know this would be my hardest aquarium setup decision.

My tank is 36" long, 24" deep, and 18" wide. I hope this helps someone provide me with more options. I'm new to the hobby and just can't decide what I should go with.
