Gorgonians are seriously one of my favorite corals. When I saw the red gorgonian and naturally figured it was non-photosynthetic, I thought wow what a beautiful gorg, I wonder what it’s called. Then one of the store employees came over and gave me good news and bad news. First he wasn’t sure of its name? He said a red gorg? I think? But he went on to say “ It’s photosynthetic “ $55 I took it! For the past month it has opened up beautifully just like the picture. Every day! I started to look on line for an id and description but I can’t find anything. Non-photosynthetic Red Gorgonians do exist but have white polyps. I’ve got to believe there’s a name for this coral somewhere. Thanks.

Looks like orange tree gorgonian

Thanks vetteguy for the response. But I don’t think that’s it. Orange Tree is NPS the one I have is Photosynthetic. I’ve also seen a good number of times the gorg you described at lfs. But seriously this is the first time I’ve ever seen this particular gorgonian. Appreciate your searching!

Think you'll need to send me a sample for analysis, haha. Good looking coral
Will do! Lol A photosynthetic red gorg and no name? Maybe I’ll grow it out, sell frags and give it my name “Glenner Gorg” like so many other frags are named. Hmm
