Good Salt Recommendations and water questions

My lfs that I normally get water from may close soon, so I may have to create my own saltwater. My tank consumes roughly 1 dkh of alkalinity a week and is mostly just softies and some lps corals.

Is distilled water a good alternative to ro/di water or should I get a ro/di unit later down the line? My tank is 30 gallons and 5 gallons are changed out per week.

The dkh of that salt is far higher than that of my tank. My tank is usually 7-8 dkh. Is it ok to have ot slowly rise through wc's?

Absolutely! Nothing good happens in this hobby quickly

I use blue bucket for the lower dkh but I have noticed the calc/mag is not always consistent, alkalinity is always a good range (7-8 usually). I'd say say at 5 gallons a week I would buy an RO/DI, it will pay for itself by the end of the first year. I only recommend Spectrapure, they have the highest quality membrane and resins on the market compared to everything I've tried or read about. Going on three years for my membrane and it still produces water as clean as the day I bought it, this is also key to saving you money on DI resin as I only have had to replace mine once per year along with the carbon and sediment filters.
