Good salt water plants? Suggestions?

I have a 5 gallon pico. Could I put some sort of plant in there to help with water quality? What kind could I put in there?? Any suggestions?

My daughter had a mermaid fan than rooted the whole bottom in a 5 gallon. It was pretty neat.

That would be cool if you could figure a way to make the root system visible.
