Good snail or bad snail?

So I found this guy on a Monti I bought a couple months ago. I just saw him for the first time in a couple weeks. He had almost doubled in size since then. Is he a good snail or do I need to take him out?

It looks like a whelk to me though.

Well whatever it is. + on the whelk he's now part of your clean up crew.

Some whelks (or maybe it is all) are predatory and will kill the other snails. I'm not sure I agree with your nonchalantness.

Thank y'all. I will take it out. Would putting it in the refugium be ok? Or just take it out and kill it?
